We're off to an excellent start this year with a delightfully high number of students reading on grade level. Students, educators, patrons and well-wishers need to celebrate the effort. Reading success is the most basic of must-haves for foundation-laying in mathematics, science, social studies, and self-esteem building. Congratulations and best wishes to all of our students! Read my entry under Principal's Update for more specifics. The upcoming week is time for SEPs, the Book Fair, Flu Clinic, order forms for the PTA Fundraiser and many good things. I will see you then. Thank you very much for your involvement and participation.

Expenses we have this year: Field trips, incentives for students, enrichment programs, printing costs for workbooks, site licenses for Educators Handbook, movie screening, and select educational sites. Reflections Theme this year: "The Magic of a Moment..." Check out pta.org website for more information. We encourage all students to participate. Great day at school! Air conditioning work continues. Students and staff are busy with lessons, tests, hands-on learning, and making wise choices. I appreciate all at Arcadia for doing their part.
Fridays are hat days at Arcadia, a tradition that continues here. Students may wear hats to school on Fridays. I ask that hats be appropriate for school. Thank you! Changes we are working on: The fourth/fifth split class goes away for good! I am contacting parents of fifth-graders to ease numbers in two fifth-grade classrooms. This means that Mrs. Park will be teaching a regular 5th-grade class. Also, Mrs. Jackie Granger will go back to teaching a regular fourth-grade class, with identified gifted core students. The third-grade class Mrs. Granger teaches, will have a new teacher next Tuesday, Sep 18th. Arcadia welcomes Ms. Amber Welch, who will teach Mrs. Granger's class. The above changes will take effect next Tuesday, September 18th. All these changes are good. Students will be placed in regular classes without the split. I will keep our community posted of changes as they occur. Arcadia is also pleased to welcome Mrs. Carly Taylor, who is substitute teaching in place of Mrs. Eloise Carlston. Tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m. is Volunteer Orientation in the Media Center. All parent volunteers are invited to attend. Relo 4 was hauled away yesterday. Arcadia reclaims some more playground space.
Back-to-School Night is tomorrow, Thursday evening from 6:00 to 7:00. Come and learn of the fun and exciting learning in store for every one of our students. Parents or guardians and students are invited to attend. I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow evening! The latest update is that power will not be turned off tomorrow, but Wednesday, August 8th, all day. Teachers are advised to restrict their time in the classrooms on Wednesday. We're sorry for the inconvenience caused.
Class lists will be up on Friday morning. Registration Day is Thursday, August 16, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the gym. If a new family has moved into our area, we ask you to call the school before coming over to register your child/ren. Please bring a utility bill or lease agreement with your name and current address, birth certificate in original form, immunization card for child. Only a parent or legal guardian may register a student. School telephone: 385-646-4756 or 4758 I spent some time rearranging documents on my webpage to make it easy for patrons and visitors looking for information about Arcadia El.
We are two weeks away from receiving teachers back in the building for their preparation and learning time. Summer has gone by fast. Construction work continues alongside our preparations, although cool air will not be available inside as yet. Please feel free to read through and leave a comment or two. We appreciate the support of our students, staff, and families. |
